The Election Commission on Tuesday corrected its poll percentage figures for Uttarakhand saying that 65.64% of the total electorate in the state cast their votes as against 68% announced earlier saying that 65.64% of the total electorate in the state cast their votes as against 68% announced earlier. Releasing final figures of polling percentage at Dehradun on Tuesday, six days after assembly elections were held in the state, the EC said while the polling percentage had dipped by 1.58%, the number of votes cast had increased. Around 48.7 lakh people exercised their franchise this year while 42.19 lakh had cast their vote in the 2012 assembly elections, the EC said.At the end of polling on February 15, chief electoral Officer Radha Raturi had convened a press conference to announce that a record 68% voters had exercised their franchise across the state.
She had said the figure was likely to go up further as queues of voters were still standing outside polling booths. She had also claimed that the polling percentage this year had exceeded 67.22% polling of 2012 assembly elections.Out of the 13 districts, Udham Singh Nagar saw maximum polling of 75.79% and the lowest was Almora with 52.81%. Out of the remaining districts, Haridwar recorded 75.69% polling, Uttarakashi 68.29%, Nainital 66.77%, Dehradun 63.45%, Champawat 61.66%, Bageshwar 61.23%, Rudraprayag 61.46%, Pithoragarh 60.58%, Chamoli 60.51%, Tehri 55.4% and Pauri 54.95%.Among the assembly constituencies, Laksar in Haridwar saw the maximum polling of 81.87 %, followed by Haridwar Rural 81.69%, Piran Kaliyar 81.43 %, Sitarganj 81.21% and Gadarpur 80.71%.
