Villagers started building a road in December last year after waiting for connectivity to their village for several decades, have now completed construction on a 560-metre stretch. The villagers claimed that they have achieved this without felling a single tree.
They are now demanding that the government aid them in building the remaining stretch of 140m which falls in Pokhri village where the nearest road head exists. The villagers said that it was after they threatened to boycott the recently held assembly elections that the district administration provided them with earthmovers to build the road.
“The women of Dang village have worked tirelessly day and night to build this road. Our main objective was to save our forests. The government must help us complete the remaining 140m and approve the total stretch,” said pradhan of Dang village, Rajni Nath.
