Residents of Dalanwala have complained that leaky pipelines have led to shortage of water

Dehradun: The residents of Dalanwala in Dehradun have complained that leaky pipelines have led to shortage of water in their area for the past two months. The residents have decided to go on a protest on Thursday.

The residents claimed that authorities have ignored repeated complaints. Anjali Gusain, another resident said, “An official complaint should be made against the water department for wastage of water. The leakage is severe and getting worse by the day.”

Mahesh Bhandari, a resident, said, “We conducted a survey of the colony and found at least 18 places where the water pipeline is leaking. These leakages are causing water loss and it will eventually impact water supply in the next couple of months.”

Jal Sansthan officials said that they are awaiting approval to purchase replacement of the pipelines.

“We will gherao Jal Sansthan on Thursday and demand a solution to our problem,” said Bhandari.

Yeshvir Mall, executive engineer, Jal Sansthan, said, “The water pipelines here are over 40 years old and made of cement. These cement pipes are not being manufactured any more though I have asked vendors to continue searching for the same. Estimated cost of the replacement of pipes has also been sent to higher authorities and we are waiting for it to get approved. The problem would be resolved shortly.”
