State’s first workshop on ‘sports science’ starts

The state’s first workshop on ‘sports science’ organized by the police department started at Dehradun Police Lines on Monday. Director general of police (DGP) M A Ganapathy inaugurated the workshop which was attended by over 300 sportspersons of the department and other national and international players from the state.

Khanna gave a detailed presentation on how smarter nutrition and bringing technology into sports can do wonders to enhance the performance of sportspersons.

Experts like Professor G L Khanna, a member of the task force for Olympics, South African expert Grant James Waters of Manav Rachna Sports Science Centre and specialists from National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala spoke on various aspects of sports science on the inaugural day.

“There is an immediate need for use of science in sports in India to get better results at national and international level sports competitions. Even small scientific changes in nutrition and training can change the overall performance of an athlete,” said Khanna.

DGP M A Ganapathy said that sports has an important role to play in police as it brings the culture of fitness and boosts morale of policemen.
