Rawat announces Science City in Uttarakhand

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat yesterday announced the setting up of a Science City in the state.

He was addressing a workshop organised by the Central Himalayan Environment Association (CHEA) at Vigyan Dham in Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology office, Dehradun. The Chief Minister while announcing the setting up of a Science City in the state asserted that it would help in developing scientific temper within society. He, however, also praised science promotion activities undertaken by the regional science centre in Dehradun.

Referring to climate change, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat exhorted the people to come forward towards the cause of environment conservation vis-à-vis climate change. He said climate change in Indian Himalayan regions was not only a matter of grave concern for the country but for the entire globe.

Addressing a workshop, Karanprayag MLA Surendra Singh Negi expressed concern over the impact of climate change on agriculture and water level in rivers and said direct impact of climate change was being seen on water sources. He said while the water level was declining, seasonal fruits were also getting ripened before time.

Central Himalayan Environment Association (CHEA) president and former Vice-Chancellor of Garhwal University Prof SP Singh also highlighted the climate change data in different years through convergent presentation on climate change in Himalayan regions and also conveyed the future effects of this. He suggested that there should be a systematic development of urbanisation every day.

Earlier, Dr Rajendra Dobhal, Director General, UCOST, welcoming Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said people associated with politics should need to understand the growing importance of climate change issues.
