Members of three families of Fannar village, in Tyuni area of Chakrata, about 150 km from Dehradun, alleged that they were socially boycotted by the rest of the residents of their village for objecting to ‘bogus voting’ by some people on February 15. On Monday, they met Dehradun district magistrate to lodge a complaint regarding the matter, following which the DM instructed the SDM of Chakrata to conduct an enquiry in the matter.
According to members of the three families, only 273 genuine voters had cast their votes in a valid manner on February 15, the polling day. Shoorvir Singh, one of the complainants, said the panchayat meeting that was held on the night of the polling day had conveyed to the families about their decision to socially boycott the families. “This is not fair,” said Shoorvir.
Dehradun district magistrate Ravinath Raman said, “Members of three families of Fannar village had come to meet me and complained that there was ‘bogus voting’ in their village and that they were socially boycotted by other villagers. I had sent the tehsildar and the patwari to the village to look into the matter. The tehsildar has ruled out any irregularity in the polling centre. To be doubly sure, I am also sending the sub-divisional magistrate to the village on Tuesday to find out the truth.”
