BJP candidate Mahendra Bhatt attacked by unknown persons, admitted to hospital

Mahendra Bhatt was selected to contest elections from Badrinath against Congress’ sitting MLA Rajendra Singh Bhandari who has been elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly twice. He won the Assembly elections in 2007 from Nandprayag as an independent candidate and then won from Badrinath in 2012. On both the occasions, he defeated BJP candidates and was tipped to have an upper hand in 2017 elections as well.

Just two before the polling in Uttarakhand, in an unfortunate event, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) candidate from Badrinath Mahendra Bhatt was attacked by few people on Monday morning. He was immediately taken to the hospital after the incident. The police is yet to identify the elements who attacked the BJP leader.

However, his closest rival for the seat is Mahendra Bhatt who can outnumber Bhandari riding on the Modi wave. Bhatt also has the support of Satpal Maharaj who is seeking votes for him. The Uttar Pradesh elections started on Saturday and registered about 64 percent voting. After the polling in Uttarakhand on February 15, Manipur will vote for their favoured candidates on March 4.

Yesterday while addressing a rally at Gharwal region’s Shrinagar, Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi exhorted the huge gathering to repeat after him, ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’. He and the audience repeated it twice before PM Modi began his speech with the important role women play in the family and society. PM Modi said that he is amazed at the number of people who have come to hear him speak here in Shrinagar, which is a hilly area where travelling is such a problem.
