PMHS : WON’T TOLERATE FOISTING OF IAS OFFICERS

The incumbent DG, Dr Kusum Narriyal citing family reasons had requested for voluntary retirement. Her request was accepted by the Government on Monday. There were rumors that the State administration is planning to hand over the post of DG to some bureaucrat.

This information caused outrage in the PMHS which immediately cried foul on the issue.

The Provincial Medical Health Services (PMHS), the association of Government doctors of the State has warned that it would not tolerate foisting of any Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer on the coveted post of State Director General of health services.

The general secretary of the organisation, Dr Naresh Napalchyal averred that the after the acceptance of resignation of Dr Narriyal a process to install an IAS officer on the post of DG has been started. He said that that there were instances in past when an officer of the rank of director in the department has functioned as DG. The PMHS general secretary said that the government should appoint an officer of provincial health service cadre on the top post and if it is not done then the PMHS would be forced to undertake an agitation. The association has also called a meeting of the executive committee on Wednesday to chart out strategy on this issue.

The present DG Dr Narriyal was due to retire in September this year but with her early retirement application being accepted, the new DG would assume office on January 31. It is learnt that senior most director in state health service Dr Abha Mamgain too has expressed her unwillingness to discharge the duties of DG. In such a scenario the director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Dr R S Aswal could be the next DG if an IAS officer is not placed on the post.
